PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystallizer and a method of removing crystals which enable the easy removal of crystals adhered to the cooling surface of the crystallization vessel. SOLUTION: The crystallizer 10 is used to obtain a solution (B) containing crystals of a raw material by cooling a solution (A) containing the raw material, and includes: a crystallization vessel 12 having a cooling surface; a cooling means 14 of cooling the cooling surface of the crystallization vessel 12 with a heat medium; a heating medium cooling means 22 of cooling the heating medium; and a heating medium-heating means 24 of heating the heating medium. A method of removing crystals which comprises melting crystals adhered to the cooling surface of the crystallization vessel 12 by supplying the heating medium heated by the heating medium-heating means 24 to the cooling means 14 is also provided.
