<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy both of driving stability and weight reduction in a pneumatic radial tire having a nominal tire sectional width of 255 or more and a tire outer diameter of 720 mm or more. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A carcass layer 6 formed with organic fiber cords having the elongation percentage of 1-5% during applying the load of 2.0 cN/dtex is mounted between a pair of right and left bead cores 4. Both ends of the carcass layer 6 are turned from the inside of the tire back to the outside around the bead cores 4. A tire radial length L<SB>b</SB>of a bead filler 5 is 5-20% of a tire sectional height SH. A sheet-like rubber reinforcing layer 7 which has the rubber hardness greater than the rubber of a sidewall portion 2 and has the thickness of 0.5-2 mm is laid between the carcass layer 6 and the sidewall portion 2. A tire radial length L<SB>r</SB>is within the range of 40-60% of the tire sectional height SH, while a tire radial distance h<SB>1</SB>between a tire radial outer end 7a and an end 8a of a belt layer is 5-25% of the tire sectional height SH.
