The method involves countouring a gear rod (1), and stamping a gear tooth section of the gear rod. The gear tooth section is tumbled and extruded. A groove, recess or notch is formed in a front side of the gear rod, for aligning and fixing a pivot bearing of the gear rod. Another gear tooth section of the gear rod is tumbled and extruded. A longitudinal axis of the notch is located transverse to a longitudinal axis of the gear rod. The gear tooth sections are provided with a variable gear transmission ratio.
