PURPOSE: Washing machine and method are provided to display the amount of detergent stored in a storage through a display unit if the detergent amount is not sufficient for washing. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine(100) is composed of a main body(111), a storage(186), a detergent path(164), and a detergent regulating unit. The main body includes a washing tub(120). A detergent bin(200) is placed at the main body. The storage temporarily stores the detergent flowing out from the detergent bin. The detergent path guides the detergent to be put into the washing tub from the storage. The detergent regulating unit controls the detergent flow passing through the detergent path.
