<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump water heater capable of necessarily minimizing a washing frequency and a washing time so that the washing time is not lengthened more than necessary, by properly seeing through the washing starting timing of a scale in a water side heat transfer tube of a water-refrigerant heat exchanger. <P>SOLUTION: This heat pump water heater K has a heat pump refrigerant circuit 1 formed by connecting a compressor 4, a refrigerant side heat transfer tube 30 of the water-refrigerant heat exchanger 3, an expansion valve 6 and a heat source side heat exchanger 7, and a hot water supply waterway 2 formed by connecting a water side heat transfer tube 29 of the water-refrigerant heat exchanger 3 for exchanging hear between a water pump 22 and a refrigerant in the refrigerant side heat transfer tube 30.
