<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision detection device and a collision detection method capable of detecting collision based on pressure variation of a pressure chamber with sufficient accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: The collision body discrimination system 10 is provided with a chamber member 18 made as lengthy in a vehicle width direction, making the inside to the pressure chamber and arranged at a front side of a bumper reinforcement 14; an absorber 20 made as lengthy in the vehicle width direction and arranged at a front side of the bumper reinforcement 14; a pressure sensor 22 for outputting a signal according to pressure variation of the pressure chamber 24; and ECU 26 for discriminating the collision body based on the signal from the pressure sensor 22. The chamber member 18 and the absorber 20 are arranged in upper and lower sides so as to clamp a clearance C.
