<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in an image forming apparatus, optical paths with equal light volume can not be formed to a plurality of nozzle rows, a drop detecting condition is hardly detected, a constitution for obtaining the equal light volume becomes complicated, or a processing for detection becomes complicated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a light emitting means (a light emitting part) 121 consisting of LD and a light receiving means (a light receiving part) 131 consisting of PD, and also includes a convex lens 122 and a collimate lens 123 as a light refractive means for refracting an outgoing radiation 101 from the light emitting part 121 and turning it into parallel light, and a plurality of light dividing and reflecting means 141 for dividing the parallel light 102 into a plurality of lights and forming the optical paths 103 corresponding to the nozzle rows 112 of the recording head 11 by receiving a part of the parallel light 102 from the collimate lens 123 constituting the light refractive means and reflecting the light.
