<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-layered coating film that is capable of reducing environmental pollution by releasing only a slight amount of carbon dioxide in total throughout its product life cycle, and is excellent in finish, pencil hardness, scratch resistance, interlayer adhesion, weatherability, alkali resistance, and solvent resistance, and to provide a multi-layered coating film capable of reducing the amount of an organic solvent used thanks to it that an aqueous paint composition is employed as a part of a paint composition to be used therefor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of forming a coating film includes forming a base coating film by applying a starch-based base paint composition comprising a starch-based resin, and a coloring pigment and/or a luster pigment onto an object to be coated, subsequently applying an aqueous paint composition curable by an active energy ray comprising an aqueous dispersion comprising an acrylic acid ester of a saccharide or of its derivative and a photopolymerization initiator, onto the base coating film, and subsequently irradiating the resulting coating film with an active energy ray.
