摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared light-emitting fluorescent material which has high emission intensity and also excellent water resistance while having an excitation wavelength and an emission wavelength nearly equal to those of a conventional molybdate-based infrared light-emitting fluorescent material. SOLUTION: The infrared light-emitting fluorescent material is represented by chemical formula: (Lu<SB>1-x-y</SB>Yb<SB>x</SB>Nd<SB>y</SB>)<SB>2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>S, wherein, x is &ge;0.01 and &le;0.07; y is &ge;0.003 and &le;0.06; and (y/x) is &ge;1/6 and &le;5/3. The infrared light-emitting fluorescent material has high emission intensity and also excellent water resistance while having an excitation wavelength and an emission wavelength nearly equal to those of a conventional Na<SB>5</SB>(Yb, Nd)(MoO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>4</SB>fluorescent material.
