PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing liquid crystal display elements, wherein it is unnecessary to additionally prepare a protection member for protecting a terminal of a liquid crystal display element in mechanical polishing and the liquid crystal display elements can be efficiently manufactured. SOLUTION: The method is provided for manufacturing the liquid crystal display elements each of which is configured so that a first substrate 3 and a second substrate 2 are arranged oppositely to each other, the second substrate 2 has a protrusion 2a projected from the first substrate 3, and a connection terminal is connected to the protrusion 2a. The method includes: a step of laminating a second master substrate which is a source of the second substrate 2 and has a substrate thickness thinner than a first master substrate to the first master substrate which is a source of the first substrate 3 and has an area larger than at least the second substrate 2 and forming a liquid crystal display element structure 7 from which a plurality of liquid crystal display elements 1 can be segmented; a step of dividing the liquid crystal display element structure 7 and forming a protrusion 2a in each liquid crystal display element 1; and a step of assembling two liquid crystal display elements 1 so that mutual connection terminal forming surfaces are opposed to each other and mutual protrusions 2a are overlapped to each other and performing mechanical polishing of the first substrates 3 or the second substrates 2 of the two liquid crystal display elements 1.
