PURPOSE: A tool clamping/unclamping sensing apparatus for a machine tool is provided to recognize accurate tool clamping conditions by employing an optical sensor for tool clamping sensing besides proximity sensors. CONSTITUTION: A tool clamping/unclamping sensing apparatus for a machine tool comprises a tool mounting spindle, a draw bar(1), an unclamp cylinder(2), a piston(3), a housing(4), a tool-clamping/unclamping sensing unit(10), proximity sensors(20,30), a dog(40), and an optical sensor(50). The piston pushes the draw bar frontward to unclamp a tool and moves rearward with the draw bar to clamp a tool. The tool-clamping/unclamping sensing unit moves back and forth with the piston in clamping/unclamping a tool. The proximity sensors sense the back and forth movements of the piston. The dog is moved back and forth with the draw bar. The optical sensor senses the backward movement of the dog.
