<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device for fixing a polarizer after adjustment, and to provide a projection video display device using the optical device. <P>SOLUTION: In this optical device, a frame 42 having an optical component can be attached to a case via an auxiliary member 44. The case of the optical device is provided with a groove into which the frame 42 is inserted and an attaching section for fixing a first section 611 of the auxiliary member. The frame 42 is provided with a frame-side positioning section that is inserted into the groove and then engages with a second section 612 of the auxiliary member 44 when it is attached at a predetermined rotation angle. The auxiliary member 44 is provided with the first section 611 fixed to the attaching part of the case and a second section 612 engaging with the frame-side positioning section. The first section 611 and second section 612 of the auxiliary member are formed at separate positions.
