The method involves determining a target position for a seat-belt extender (1) depending on an input parameter, and controlling the target position, where the target position is considered as a rest position or an extended position. The target position is considered as a support position between the rest position and the extended position. The target position is changeable during a driving operation depending on the input parameter. The input parameter is selected from one of side window position (2), vehicle's convertible soft top position (3), seat position (4) and driving speed (5).
