Provided is a label printer which performs printing by inkjet after the surface of a continuous body of label with no mount is modified by corona discharge and UV irradiation. Also provided is a method for controlling a label printer. The label printer comprises a supply section (2) to which a continuous body (11) of label with no mount having a release agent layer (14) formed on the front surface side and an adhesive layer (15) formed on the back surface side is attached; a corona discharge section (3) performing corona discharge to the front surface side of the continuous body which is fed out from the supply section; a UV irradiation section (4) for irradiating UV-rays to the front surface side where corona discharge is performed; and a print section (6) for ejecting ink from an ink jet head (5) to the front surface side to which corona discharge and UV irradiation are performed.
