<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coloring matter for forming a recording layer of an optical recording medium, which is excellent in solubility in a coating solvent and light-resistance and capable of responding also to optical recording using blue laser light, the optical recording medium using the same and a recording method of the optical recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The coloring matter for forming the recording layer of the optical recording medium which contains a complex consisting of a ligand of a hydrazide compound expressed by formula (I) and a transition metal cation is constituted. In the formula, a ring A denotes an aromatic ring group.
