Preparing a FU-1 type crystalline solid comprises: (i) mixing at least one source of at least one element X comprising silicon and/or germanium, at least one source of at least one element Y1 comprising aluminum, iron, gallium and/or boron and at least one alkyl compound of polymethylene-alpha -omega diammonium in aqueous alkaline medium; and (ii) hydrothermally treating the mixture.
