<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of yielding a high-quality projected image with high-luminance light by efficiently cooling a light source part. <P>SOLUTION: The projector has LEDs for color light 101R, 101G and 101B provided on the 1st surfaces 102Ra, 102Ga and 102Ba of respective base plates 102R, 102G and 102B, liquid crystal light valves for color light 104R, 104G and 104B modulating each color light in accordance with an image signal, trapezoidal prisms 103R, 103G and 103B for guiding the light from the LEDs for color light 101R, 101G and 101B to the liquid crystal light valves for color light 104R, 104G and 104B, a cross dichroic prism 105 composing the modulated light and a projection lens 106 projecting the light.
