PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate image reading processing. SOLUTION: When a start key for starting the read-in of an image is depressed (Y at S6) in a state where an original platen is opened (Y at S4), the operation of at least an image read-in means and a size decision means is inhibited (Y at S106 in figure 7) in the case an operator performs an operation and a paper size recognition means succeeds to recognize the size of paper. The image read-in means reads the image in by scanning an original on an original platen in the main scanning direction by using a CCD. The size decision means is composed of at least one original existence detection means arranged at a specified position in the subscanning direction of the original platen and outputting information as to whether an original exists at the specified position and a means for deciding the size of the original placed on the original platen on the basis of individual output signals from the image read-in means. |
