PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily input character information indicated in an object such as a magazine etc. as locational information for specifying a destination and registering memory locations. SOLUTION: This car navigation system 1 is provided with a method for inputting locational information such as the names of facilities and stores which a user desires to specify, addresses, and telephone numbers on the basis of character recognition from images inputted by the user as one of methods for specifying a destination (or for registering memory locations) by the user. In this case, the user inputs an image of a document such as a magazine containing the locational information by photographing it with an onboard camera 2. A control circuit 5 reads image data from the onboard camera 2, displays it on a screen of a display part 7, receives range specification by the user's touch panel operation, and makes an image recognition part 10 process image data included in the range and recognize character information included in the range.
