The invention is based on an apparatus for calibrating at least one sensor using a calibration medium, in which a mode of operation for testing test objects, particularly banknotes, using the at least one sensor and a calibration mode for calibrating the at least one sensor using the calibration medium are provided, wherein the calibration medium comprises, in line with the invention, rigid, ribbon-like material which is wound up to form a roll, wherein the calibration medium can be unwound from the roll or wound up onto the roll by means of a drive, wherein the calibration medium is unwound from the roll by means of the drive and pushed into the sensing range of the at least one sensor in the calibration mode for calibrating the at least one sensor, and the calibration medium is wound up onto the roll by means of the drive when the calibration mode has ended in order to allow test objects in the sensing range of the sensor to be tested during the mode of operation. |
