A lithium secondary battery including lithium cobalt nickel manganese composite oxide is provided to reduce heat generation when temperature of battery is abnormally raised, thereby improving thermal safety and physical properties by comprising the composite oxide based on lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese as anode active material. A battery comprises: lithium nickel cobalt manganese composite oxide represented by LiNixCoyMn1-x-yO2 wherein x is <x</=0.5 and y is 0<y</=0.5 as anode active material; 0.1 to 10wt. parts of at least one metal oxide selected from Al, Sn, Li, Zn, Na, Mn, Zr, Si and rare-earth elements relative to 100wt. parts of the anode active material; and x and y are independently 1/3. Preferably, amount of the metal oxide ranges from 1 to 5wt. parts and is aluminum oxide(Al2O3) or Sn oxide. |
