PURPOSE: An EGR system and a control method thereof is provided to simultaneously control an HP(High Pressure) EGR system and an LP(Low Pressure) EGR system according to the operating state of an engine. CONSTITUTION: A control method for an EGR system comprises the steps of: determining the operating state of an engine(S10), confirming whether the variation of the opening angle of a gas pedal is equal to or greater than the desired value(S20), determining whether the operating state of the engine is in a range for controlling low pressure EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) through closed loop control according to the operating state of the engine(S30), and controlling either high or low pressure EGR through the closed loop control(S40) while controlling the other through open loop control(S70).
