PURPOSE: An impact absorbing device for a steering column is provided to safely protect a driver by minimizing impact applied to the driver when the driver is bumped against a steering device. CONSTITUTION: An impact absorbing device for a steering column comprises an inner tube(3) and an outer tube(4). A motor(2) is installed in the inner tube to rotate the inner tube. The overlapped parts of notches(3a) of the inner tube are controlled by the motor. A frictional ring(5) is integrally inserted into outer tube. One or more notches(5a) of the outer tube are formed in the frictional ring. The notches of the inner tubes are formed on one surface of protrusions protruded from the outer surface of the inner tube.
