PURPOSE: An electronic pen mouse and an operating method thereof are provided to input a character into an electronic device by directly writing character like a pen and supply a function as a position determination device in a distanced space on a surface. CONSTITUTION: A light source(104) projects an incident light onto a target object placed in a space, and a lens unit allows the light progressing from the target object to pass therethrough. An image generator(106) generates a reference image for the target object by sensing the light incident at the first point of time at the lens unit. The image generating unit generates a comparison image for the target object by sensing the light incident at the second point of time. A calculation unit(110) compares the reference image and the comparison image to generates the movement information of the pointer.
