PURPOSE: A method for visually providing automatic response service and a system therefor are provided to select auditory performance or visual performance of ARS according to situation of a user, thereby improving convenience of the user. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(130) transmits ARs(Auto Response System) providing type selected by a user input to ARS server through a wireless communication unit(110). According to the selected ARS providing type, the control unit visually or auditorily receives information for performing ARS such as a ARS menu from a ARS server. The control unit provides the information to a user through speaker or display unit(170). A storage unit(150) stores program and data for performing all kinds of function of portable terminal(100).
