PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge heating treatment method and a sludge heating treatment apparatus capable of controlling odor intensity of treated sludge below a certain value and an organic compound content in the treated sludge above a certain value. SOLUTION: The method includes the heating process in which the sludge is overheated in a heating furnace 2, the oxygen concentration in the heating furnace 2 is maintained at a prescribed value, and the sludge is heated for a prescribed time.
