<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder internal pressure sensor characteristics detection device highly accurately detecting deviation in detection pressure characteristics causes by hysteresis of a cylinder internal pressure sensor with respect to reference pressure characteristics. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In fuel cut operation, the reference pressure characteristics 200 in a cylinder are symmetrical about a top dead center (TDC) as a center between a compression stroke and an expansion stroke. If the cylinder pressure sensor is normal, the detection pressure characteristics 210 detected based on an output signal of the cylinder internal pressure sensor approximately correspond with the reference pressure characteristics 200. If there is any abnormality in the cylinder internal pressure sensor, asymmetric hysteresis of detection pressure characteristics 210 of the cylinder internal pressure sensor may occur in the compression stroke and the expansion stroke. In at least one of the compression stroke and the expansion stroke, the deviation in detection pressure characteristics 210 is detected with respect to the reference pressure characteristics 200 in the fuel cut operation, and an abnormality in the cylinder internal pressure sensor is detected based on the deviation.
