<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in conventional γ correction, correction is not applied for each of R, G, and B so that white balance is not controlled, and generally, it is difficult to control the white balance in low gray levels, so that contrast is sacrificed when each of R, G, and B is offset in γ correction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A display device for displaying an image using a light source with backlight comprises: a correction means for applying γ correction to an input video signal; and a detection means for detecting brightness of the backlight.
