PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera that can improve the focusing performance with respect to a specified object that has a predetermined color. SOLUTION: An imager 16 has an imaging surface that captures a field through a focus lens 12 and repeatedly outputs an image of a field. A skin-color filter provided in an AF evaluation circuit 24 extracts a skin-color image from the output of the imager 16. A CPU 26 adjusts the focus, based on the output from the imager 16 or the output from the skin color filter 24a. On the basis of the output from the imager 16, the CPU 26 determines whether there exist a face of a person in the field. If the result of the determination is negative, the CPU 26 selects the output from the imager 16 for the focus adjustment; whereas, if the result of the determination is positive, the CPU selects the output from the skin-color filter for the focus adjustment.
