PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ease of operation of a tracking function when a moving image is recorded by an image capturing apparatus. SOLUTION: A recording I/F unit 145 records video data in a recording medium. A tracking process unit 155 tracks an object in a field based on the video data. An operation unit 180 has a video recording button 180d and a tracking button 180f that are separately provided in a chassis 200. A system control unit 157 controls the recording I/F unit 145 and the tracking process unit 155 according to the operation of the operation unit 180. The video recording button 180d and the tracking button 180f can be independently operated so that the release state is changed and then release state is restored. The system control unit 157 allows either of video data recording start and video data recording stop while the video recording button 180d changes from the release state and then returns to the release state again, and allows both object tracking start and object tracking stop while the operation of the tracking button 180f starts in the release state and then returns to the release state again.
