<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine capable of changing the operating state of a regulating mechanism independently of the supplying state of an operating fluid to an advance chamber or a delay chamber during the operation of the engine and capable of changing the operating state by using a single hydraulic control valve. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This variable valve gear includes: a valve timing variable mechanism 30 for changing valve timing; an intermediate lock mechanism 40 for fixing valve timing to an intermediate angle; and an oil pressure supply device 50 for controlling the lubricating oil supplying state to these mechanisms. The oil pressure supply device 50 supplies and discharges the lubricating oil to an intermediate oil passage 57, which connects an oil control valve 51 and an intermediate chamber 42 to each other, without passing through any of an advance chamber 35 and a delay chamber 36. The lubricating oil supplying state is controlled by a single oil control valve 51. The lubricating oil supplying state to the intermediate chamber 42 is changed during the operation of the engine to change the operating condition of the intermediate lock mechanism 40.
