OPTIMIZATION OF DATA DISTRIBUTION AND POWER CONSUMPTION IN A DATACENTER

PURPOSE: A method for optimizing data distribution and power consumption in a data center is provided to selectively reduce power of data storage devices for data of a less active state, thereby optimizing power consumption in a data center. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of data storage devices are classified by performance parameters(40). If enough time for setting an activity level passes, data is classified according to the activity level(44,46). The data is re-distributed among the data storage devices to relate a determined data activity level with determined device efficiency(48). Power setting values of data storage devices are optimized according to the stored redistributed data(50).
