PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium by which the magnetic recording medium having a clear magnetic recording pattern can be manufactured by a simple process. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium having a magnetically separated magnetic recording pattern MP includes at least: a first step for forming a first magnetic layer 11 on a non-magnetic substrate 10; a second step for forming a resist layer 12 patterned in a shape corresponding to the magnetic recording pattern MP on the first magnetic layer 11; a third step for forming a second magnetic layer 13 covering the surface on which the resist layer 12 of the first magnetic layer 11 is formed; a fourth step for removing the resist layer 12 together with the second magnetic layer 13 formed thereon; and a fifth step for partially removing the first magnetic layer 11 or partially reforming magnetic characteristics of the first magnetic layer 11.
