<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of generating logs of necessary and sufficient quantity in accordance with the usage environment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a copy start operation is performed, this apparatus determines whether or not a log management level is "low" (S210), and if so, the apparatus executes copy processing in S220. That means, a reading section reads an original document on an original document platen, a printing job of the read image data generated by the reading section is executed and a printing section prints a copy of the original document. A record storing the data of the number of printed sheets is registered as a printing job execution history in a log file (S230). On the contrary, if the log management level is "high", the process shifts to S240 to acquire a user name and a password through an authentication screen and the user is authenticated. If the user is authenticated, copy processing is executed in S260 similarly to S220, a record storing the user name data acquired through the authentication screen is registered in the log file.
