The transducer (1) has a monolithic, stack-shaped piezoelement (10) with two electrode layers (12, 13), where a piezo-ceramic layer (14) is arranged between the electrode layers. An external electrode is arranged at a surface section of the piezoelement. A recess (19) is provided in the piezoelement for selective electrical contact of the external electrode and one of the electrode layers with each other and for selective electrical insulation of the external electrode and the other electrode layer at the surface section, where the recess is filled with electrical insulation material (191). An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an ultrasonic transducer.
