In an ignition transformer for generating an ignition voltage for a gas discharge lamp with a high pressure lamp burner, having a ferrite core, primary coil(s) and secondary coil(s) (87) formed by an insulated metal strip placed on the core with the high voltage-directing end of the secondary coil located on the inner side, the core is in the form of a film spool and the secondary coil is wound onto the core similarly to a film. An independent claim is included for an integrated gas discharge lamp with an ignition transformer as above.
