PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder enabling the labor of the user to be reduced when a sheet bundle is aligned and capable of reliably aligning the sheet bundle. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder includes a loading base 2 on which the sheet bundle 13 formed of a plurality of sheets 13a is placed in the upright attitude with the overlapping direction of the sheets positioned in the generally horizontal direction, aligning means 6a, 6b for aligning, while vibrating, the sheet bundle 13 placed on the loading base 2, feed means 5, 51, 52 for feeding the sheets 13a placed on the loading base 2 to a conveying passage, detection means 18a, 18b, 19a, 19b for detecting whether or not the sheet bundle is aligned by the aligning means 6a, 6b, and a control means for controlling the driving of the aligning means 6a, 6b according to the results of the detection by the detection means 18a, 18b, 19a, 19b.
