PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drawing apparatus in which head installation is carried out easily without changing the posture of a head unit and a method of installing a head. SOLUTION: The drawing apparatus comprises a head installation part 32 capable of positioning and installing one head below a head unit 4 while setting the nozzle face downward and making the head movable relatively to the head unit 4; a first recognition device 33 for recognizing an image of a head fixation position from a position below the head unit 4; and control means for controlling the relative movement of the head installation part 32 and the head unit 4. In head installation in the head unit 4, the head installation part 32 and the head unit 4 are moved relatively in a manner that the difference of the position coordinates between the head fixation position recognized by an image by the first recognition device 33 and the head of the head installation part 32 is canceled and the head fixation position and the head of the head installation part 32 are set face to face and thereafter, the head installation part 32 and the head unit 4 are moved relatively to carry out positioning of the head of the head installation part 32 at the head fixation position.
