<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer for easily detecting the width direction deviation of a printing tape and correcting a deviation to carry out printing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The printer detects an actual position of one end in a width direction of the printing tape (S5) and computes the difference between a detected value and a set tape end reference position (S8). The printer then corrects a printing position using the difference as a correction value (S10). Consequently, even when the position of the printing tape deviates due to the distortion of a tape cassette, a mounting failure of the tape cassette to the printer and dimensional dispersion of a printing tape guide member, the printing position can be corrected according to the actual deviation.
