An image display device is provided with a plurality of light source units (2) arranged by being spaced apart from each other, an LED drive circuit (31) and a liquid crystal panel.  Each light source unit (2) has a light guide body (21) and an LED (22), and the light guide body (21) has a light scattering section.  The drive circuit (31) controls each light source unit (2), corresponding to an image to be displayed on the liquid crystal panel, separately adjusts luminous fluxes emitted from the light source units (2), and changes the screen luminance of the liquid crystal panel.
