PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in an MFP constitution that is provided with an input means for user information in an operation section and returns to a normal mode from an energy saving mode by detection of an input, failure in user authentication after returning to the normal mode sometimes occurs resulting in an unnecessary return from the energy saving mode, and consequently a device with un upper limit for a number of activation will consume its lifetime uselesslly and consume unnecessary power. SOLUTION: The operation section 204 is provided with the input means for user information which can act in the energy saving mode and a first authentication means for authenticating by a first authenticating condition. The MFP101 maintains the energy saving mode when failing in authentication and returns to the normal mode from the energy saving mode and carries out the second authentication when the authentication is successful.
