PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of preventing, for example, dark area-gradation deterioration resulting in turning the area black of subjects or halation of backgrounds by backlight or the like. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element for imaging an object to be photographed; a means for acquiring distance information to the object to be photographed from each pixel in the imaging element: and a distance information acquisition section for acquiring the distance information before the imaging. The imaging element has a light reception surface for receiving ambient light for photoelectric conversion, can control storage time of charge by the photoelectric conversion in pixel units, and further has a storage time control section for controlling the storage time of charge of the imaging element in pixel units based on the distance information.
