A friction shock absorber of locomotive comprises a body mounted on a truck frame, a rod, which by one end is elastically fastened to a bracket of an axle-box lid. Its other end is similarly connected with a steel piston clamped between two inserts, which have linings of friction material. As a spring a pneumatic element is used which is connected by a pipe with a controlled pressure regulator of compressed air.
