<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable adequate correction in a full screen even in a high luminance region without the need of lowering the luminance after the correction. <P>SOLUTION: A target luminance value not uniform over the entire display panel is set as a target luminance value for an image signal so that the target luminance value distribution per display panel planar position is a curved distribution. The correction value per display panel planar position is calculated from the luminance observed per display panel planar position and the target luminance value per display panel planar position when an image signal value is given to the entire display panel.
