PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of eliminating the need of performing a copying operation beforehand when specifying the position of an outer peripheral area and a book center area to an original document, preventing parts corresponding to the outer peripheral area and the book center area from becoming visible images and being image-formed, and suppressing the useless consumption of a developer and recording paper. SOLUTION: In the case of an open state image forming mode, a display means 807 displays image data read by a scanner part 3 in such a state that specification instruction input of a print area and the book center area is possible. A converted data generation part 905 converts the visible image data of an area corresponding to the outer peripheral area other than the print area set by a print area setting part 901 and the book center area set by a book center area setting part 902 to the image data of the same color as a base color and generates converted data.
