PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that is used by various languages, and even when a symbol group allowed to be input as a password is switched, can prevent the generation of a trouble in the input of a password. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 52 includes: an operation panel 102 in which a plurality of symbol groups are allowed to be selected and user's input is restricted only to symbols included in a selected symbol group; an authentication section 146 for authenticating the user by using a symbol string input from the operation panel 102; and a CPU 120 for notifying the user that authentication information necessary for authentication in the authentication section 146 can not be input from the operation panel 102 in response to the switching of the selected symbol group.
