PURPOSE: A decoding method of an audio signal and an apparatus thereof are provided, which extract the space component signal based on correlation, and then outputs the readjusted space component signal and source component signal through the different signal processing parts, thereby the stereophonic effect of the audio signal is enlarged. CONSTITUTION: A spatial component signal extractor(1120) extracts the space component signals of each channel. A spatial component signal modifier(1130) amends the extracted spatial component signal by the surround effect information. A source component signal extractor(1140) eliminates the space component signals from the audio signal. A signal output unit(1150) unites the extracted source component signals and the modified spatial component signal. The signal processing part outputs the stereo signal to the outside of the audio signal decoder.
