<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: unexpected light leakage and coloring due to birefringence of a sapphire substrate are caused and display quality is spoiled, when observing the liquid crystal display element using the sapphire substrate as a semiconductor thin film substrate from a direction other than the front face. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element retains a liquid crystal layer by using the sapphire substrate as at least one side transparent substrate of emission side and incident side of light, wherein an optical compensation plate is arranged in any place between polarizing plate arranged in front of the liquid crystal display element and the liquid crystal layer or between the polarizing plate arranged in the rear of the liquid crystal display element and the liquid crystal layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
