IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS AND IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus effectively and efficiently estimating the pixel value of a target pixel in an input image even if the number of effective pixels available for estimating the pixel value of the target pixel is small. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus estimates the pixel value of a target pixel by use of a regression function formed by the linear combination of a basis function. The image processing apparatus includes: a matrix equation generating unit for generating a matrix equation based on a space weighting function for calculating a coefficient of the basis function; a coefficient matrix stability determining unit for determining the stability of the coefficient matrix of the matrix equation generated; a matrix equation generating means switching control unit for performing switching control of the matrix equation generating means according to the determination result; a coefficient calculating unit for calculating a coefficient of the basis function, and generating a regression function based on the calculated coefficient of the basis function and a model equation of the regression function; and a pixel value estimating unit for estimating the pixel value of the target pixel based on the regression function generated by the coefficient calculating unit.
