PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yarn feeder capable of accurately twisting and hanging on a yarn unreeled from a large-sized yarn feed package, and also capable of applying stably tension onto such an unreeled yarn, and to provide a method for adjusting the unreeling tension of a yarn from the yarn feeder. SOLUTION: The yarn feeder comprises: a spindle having a vertical revolving shaft for axially supporting rotatably a yarn feed package; a plurality of guide rolls on the outer circumferential side of the yarn feed package, wherein the plurality of guide rolls are parallel to the above revolving shaft for winding a yarn unreeled from the yarn feed package; and a cage the outer surface of which is provided with a traverse support rotator for vertically turning the yarn unreeled from the yarn feed package; wherein it is characterized in that the cage supports via bearings the yarn feed package threaded axially through the spindle and revolvably driven around the revolving shaft of the spindle.
